Life Member - Shelagh Bragg

1981 was the first Large Herds Conference Shelagh attended and she has been a regular delegate until 2009 missing only three conferences between 1982 and 1988. From 1989 until 2009 she has attended every year.

The 1990 conference in Tauranga saw Shelagh as Secretary of the Bay of Plenty Organising Committee. As well, a recently converted dairy farm owned by Earle and Shelagh was one of two featured as focus farms for that conference.

In 1991 a decision was made to form an Executive Committee. This was to oversee the legal obligations of the Association, to manage surplus funds and to help organising committees with staging conferences. Shelagh was appointed as Secretary of the Executive and has held that appointment until her retirement in March 2009.

In 1996 the Executive Committee appointed Shelagh as their Sponsorship and Conference Co-ordinator. This position was to create continuity from year to year for our sponsors and to help organising committees with their planning and progress.

Shelagh held those positions for 12 years in addition to the role as Secretary/Treasurer.

In 2000, the Executive staged the first International Large Herds Conference in Christchurch where Shelagh had responsibility as Conference Secretary plus Conference and Sponsorship Co-ordinator.

Such was the success of that event, that the Executive held another International Conference in 2005 and the role of Sponsorship and Conference Co-ordinator was again assigned to Shelagh.

In addition to the above Shelagh was also the NZLHA representative on several agricultural based committees.

Shelagh has also been involved in Large Herd conferences in Australia and in South Africa where she was made a Life Member of the South African Large Herds Conference in 2003.
